Recent and Future Events – Newsletter Oct 23

Our 9th October presentation by the County Archaeologist, Bill Horner was well attended and well received. Bill spoke about the archaeology of the Lower Dart, from the end of the Ice Age to the start of the Cold War. I have added notes, taken from his talk, in the pre-historic section of this website.

Our next meeting will be at 7pm on 13th November when a long time favourite, John Risden, will return to talk about the Fownes-Luttrells family and the influence they had on this area and the development of Kingswear. If you want to know why the footpaths don’t go where you want them to and why Dartmouth developed and Kingswear didn’t (despite better transport links), this talk is for you.

I have included details of a meeting of the Dartmouth History Research Group (Flavel Theatre 1:30-pm Saturday 18 Nov) which shows how to research the history of your home and focuses on the history of Dartmouth through the history of four houses. See Here.
