Kingswear and Neighbourhood

FROM Broadsands in Torbay south westward to Galmpton Bay on the Dart Estuary is only one and a quarter miles. To the south and east of this isthmus the peninsula of Brixham broadens out to such an extent that a south-western line from Berry Head to Kingswear Ferry stretches for rather more than five mules. The ancient parish of Brixham included practically the whole of the seven thousand acres of the peninsula; but the village of that name 1s too near Torbay to be in touch with the farms and hamlets in the south west.

A clear division may be made at the highest ground and road junction, Hill Head (546 feet). North and east of that is the neighbourhood of Bnxham,; south and west the lands can correctly be described as in the neighbourhood of Kingswear.
