I was asked if I would write a short history of the Kingswear and Dartmouth Golf Club, I immediately said ‘yes! What I did not realise at that time, was the fun filled challenge I would have in establishing any new facts about an institution that existed for only a few years of the last century – and about which no records, other than the widely seen handbook, survive today.

The story does not even have a definitive ending, as today we are still not quite sure how the demise of the Kingswear and Dartmouth Golf Club occurred, or exactly when it happened – although we now have a good idea. I have relied, not only on the written word of the day, but also on colourful memories of many Kingswear residents who remember the history of the golf course first hand! Surely there can be no better way of recalling our wonderful history, than by talking to friends and neighbours whose memories and recollections of our village are a joy to listen to and a treasure to cherish.
