FUTURE EVENTS

June 2024

Jo Griffen  has asked whether Kingswear Historians would be interested in putting together an exhibition to go in church to help the village mark the 80th Anniversary of DDay on 6th June this year?

“I met with the Parish Council last night and church has agreed to put on a service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at 7pm on Thursday 6th June which will include the Proclamation which will be read around the UK on that day, and a DDay 80 wreath laying. It will be followed by tea and coffee and then a beacon lighting at 9.15pm.

It would be super if we could display some photos of the river full of boats ready to go to Normandy and some of the information and accounts of what happened so that people can look at those whilst having tea and cake after the service”.

2025 Is the Centenary celebration for the Village Hall.

We don’t have very much knowledge about the Hall and it would be great if people felt they would like to research the history and the people involved. There might be a 1920”s party to follow!

Research for a booklet.

Neil Baxter has sent in a story of a shipwreck of a navy ship inside the Mewstone in the 18thC. Gail Ham has started to pin down some facts about this wreck and what happened and it would be really good if somebody felt they would like to take it on and working with Gail, produce a booklet. Neil has suggested that any profit could be shared between the Historians, Dartmouth Research group and the NCI.

“History & Cake”

Monday 4 December 2023

10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Church Hall, Baptist Church, Carey Road, Townstal

Following on from the 18 November, “A History of Dartmouth in Four Houses” meeting the DHRG will be providing a chance to follow up in more detail any other questions you may have on how to research the history of a house in Dartmouth and the surrounding area, and to discuss anything and everything historical.

There will also be a short talk by one of their members – and, last but not least, cake! Everyone is welcome. If you are new to the group and plan to go, it would be helpful if you could let them know by emailing enquiries@dartmouth-history.org.uk so that they have some idea of numbers.
