Presentation – Census – Follow-Up

I was contacted, after my presentation, by Viv and Michael Short whose ancestors featured so prominently in my presentation. They were kind enough to send me 2 photographs which I share below.

The first is a photograph of the post office staff who would have received the casualty messages (courtesy of Viv and Michael Short). The mobilisation poster suggests this is during, or just after WW1 while the medal ribbons worn by the postment suggest it was after 1918.

Mr Samuel Wellington – Postmaster – and his wife Caroline, One of the postmen was (probably on right) William Isaac, lady back left would be Donna Short and the 2 younger ladies may be Kathleen Short and Maud Burridge.

The second is a photograph of Kingswear village above Waterhead Creek and the Brixham roud and shows how new cottages were constucted along the contours and the associated roads.
