Join us for a full day of Teignmouth’s maritime history. Hear from local experts about the early days of Job Brothers, of Teignmouth, and Captain John Jellard of Shaldon, who sailed for them before sailing round the world voyage in the Avery, built at Shaldon. See the wonderful paintings of Teignmouth resident Thomas Luny, from his early days in London, painting for officers of the East India Company to his time in Teignmouth where he painted the majority of his works. We’ll also hear about smugglers, pirates and privateers in Teignmouth, and see the places they used to beach their clandestine goods. Listen to an afterlunch session of sea-songs from Martin Hazel and his accordion, and finish off the day with a walk round Teignmouth, seeing it through the eyes of Thomas Luny.
