“Turner’s Darling”
Ian Fraser will tell us the story behind the painting and the artist. He will reveal why this painting was Turner’s favourite.
In 1811 Turner travelled in the West Country visiting both Dartmouth and Kingswear. He used his experience of observing seascapes to help him compose and paint one of his most famous paintings, “The Fighting Temeraire.”
Our presenter – Ian Fraser has lived in Kingswear since 1991. He went to school in Churston in 1953 and then studied at Torquay Boys Grammar School. After school.he studied medicine and practiced as a consultant surgeon.He has a very strong interest in marine history and medical history as well as the Royal Navy during this period.
Ian will reveal this ntriguing story which links art and maritime history.
